Social Support

Community Visitors Scheme (CVS)

Community Visitors Scheme

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a free service that facilitates friendly social visits for community members who are over 65 and have a Home Care Package or are living in residential care settings. If you're looking for social connection, we can arrange for a volunteer visitor to come to your home or care facility once a week or fortnight.

Our caring CVS volunteers will come to you for a relaxed social visit that can include a chat over tea, listening to music, reading the newspaper, playing card games or enjoying other interests together. We do our best to match you with a volunteer on the basis of shared interests, personality, backgrounds, and language where possible.

If you're interested in having a volunteer visit you, or you'd like to become a volunteer visitor, click the button below to get in touch with our CVS Co-ordinator.

The Community Visitors Scheme is an Australian Government Funded Initiative and MCCGC is funded by the Department of Health.

I Speak Your Language

I Speak Your Language is a volunteer based cultural support program delivering a free social support phone call to isolated Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) participants throughout Queensland. The project increases migrant and refugee volunteer participation and builds a sense of belonging while supporting primarily vulnerable isolated non English speakers.

Participants based anywhere in Queensland receive a friendly phone call (20-30 min) once a week in their native language. Volunteers have to be based on the Gold Coast to make the calls from the Australian Red Cross call centre (Southport).

Talking Circle - Conversational English Class

Talking Circle is a weekly gathering where women of all ages, backgrounds and levels meet to share their stories and have friendly conversation. It helps women gain confidence in speaking, improve their language skills and have an opportunity to socialise in a safe and welcoming environment. English speakers are welcome to come along to volunteer and learn about different cultures.

If you are an organisation or a community group interested in hosting the program, don't hesitate to contact us.
